February 2024 Genealogy Programs

1940 Census Population Schedule for Madison County, NC, Township 15, Mars Hill.

In celebration of Black History Month, Friends of the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School are sponsoring two Genealogy Programs which have been designed to guide participants on how to research the history of Madison County Black Families using Census Records. These sessions will be led by Dan Slagle, local historian and genealogist.

The sessions are free and will be approximately 1 hour in length. Additional time will be given for individual questions. The sessions will take place on Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m., and Sunday, February 25 at 2 p.m. at the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School, 225 Mount Olive Drive in Mars Hill, NC.

Genealogy research has improved greatly over the past few years. These days, with a library card and a computer, you can access Census records from the comforts of home, giving family members an opportunity to learn about their ancestors and family history.
