Invitation to Alumni and Family Members of Alumni

Your presence is requested for an interview for an upcoming children’s picture book on the history of Rosenwald Schools.

The two co-authors, Marti Rosner & Frye Gaillard, shared that, “We are co-authoring a book about The Rosenwald Schools. The book we are working on is a children’s picture book, 32 pages, to be published sometime in 2019. That would be our target date.

“It’s too early to say what the title will be, but the purpose of the book is educational rather than commercial — i.e., to help children in our region and elsewhere understand this important piece of history, and thus to celebrate the philanthropy of Julius Rosenwald, the vision of Booker T. Washington for the education of African American children, and the contributions of African American citizens of numerous small towns and rural communities, toward a better life for their children.

“Your school is one of many we are in the process of visiting in order to deepen our understanding of the story beyond the scholarly and historical reading we have done.”

Please meet on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Mars Hill Anderson Rosenwald School in Mars Hill, NC. Interviews will take place between 11:00am and 1:30pm.
