Rosenwald Schools National Register Nominations Project

We are pleased to report that a consultant has been hired for our Rosenwald schools National Register nominations project, which was funded by an Underrepresented Communities grant awarded to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources last year by the National Park Service.

Heather Wagner Slane, principal of HMWPreservation (heather@hmwpreservation.com; 336-207-1502), has been awarded the contract. Heather, and her associate, Cheri Szcodronski, will be conducting field work and research this summer in order to submit nominations for the Mars Hill School and six other Rosenwald schools addressed by the project by early October.

Final drafts of the nominations are due early next year in order to present them for review and approval by the North Carolina National Register Advisory Committee at their February 2018 meeting.
