Rosenwald Project Planning Committee Meeting

February 8, 2013

Mt. Olive Baptist Church

The Rosenwald Project Planning Committee held its meeting of February 8, 2013, in the basement fellowship hall of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Attending were: David and Willa Wyatt, Charity Ray, Sandra Tolley, Augusta Gladding, Dorothy Rapp, Paul Smith, Judy Futch, Bob Zink, Theresa Phillips and Richard Dillingham

Willa Wyatt, committee chair, opened the meeting at approximately 10 am.

She said that National Historic Trust is sponsoring a conference for representatives of various Rosenwald rehabilitation projects throughout the south, in Columbia, SC on April 12 and 13.  We can send a group of representatives for $100.  She would like to do this.  Some people may choose to stay overnight, but it would probably be a day trip on Friday.

Because April 12 is normally when the ARC meeting would take place, Willa proposed that we move the ARC meeting to April 19 at the Dept. of Cultural Resources.  There was general agreement.

Consultant Judy Futch used the rest of the meeting to work on the strategic plan process.  She led the group in an exercise designed to reach a set of guiding principles.  Committee members were to suggest important values and discuss why they believed those values are important. Some of the values discussed were respect, equality, sustainability, perseverance, valuing education, and valuing history. Judy Futch and Paul Smith will use responses from the planning exercises of the January and February meetings to create a cohesive vision and values statement to present to the strategic planning committee, and later to the whole committee.

The next meeting of the Anderson Rosenwald Planning Committee was planned for February 8 at 10 am at Mt. Olive Church.
